Second day of racing over - Broadwater was determined to qualify for Italy and we are happy to say that the Grand Masters Mixed 10s crew took another gold in the 500 m event which gives them 2 golds, qualifying the crew for Italy. The Masters Mixed took a bronze in their division for the 500 which gives them one silver and one bronze which will most likely qualify them also for Italy. A tough but rewarding day.
Tomorrow is State vs State which will be interesting as Queensland has had most of the medal placings in the first 2 days but with the strong NSW premier divisions and other States stepping up it will be very competitive. In the afternoon will be the enduring 2 km races which will test the sweeps ability and the endurance of all teams! Good luck State reps and Broadie paddlers! First day of racing over - and Broadwater has paddled themselves to a Gold medal in the Grand Masters Mixed 200 - 10s, and a Silver in the Masters Mixed 200 - 10s. Awesome effort on the first day Broadie. Tomorrow are the gruesome 500m races... good luck all!
Hi paddlers,
I would like to thank, on behalf of the committee and myself, all those who have been involved in preparing our paddlers and club for the Nationals. This includes our head coach and his coaching team, sweeps, the committee, volunteers and team captains and managers. There is a lot of time and energy spent leading up to the Nationals and once again our club has pulled together as one big team to make it happen! We wish our club representative paddlers and our State representative paddlers, the best as they endeavour to bring our club and our State home with Golds! Well done all and lets show our fellow Australian clubs what Broadwater can do! Cheers Micah Club President Hi paddlers, Please see the training schedule for tomorrow. We had a good social boat on the water last week. Please continue to invite your family and friends to try out dragonboating.
The sweep and car park roster for tomorrow are: NATIONALS BOAT Richard Vanderfelde Irene Warren PT/Denise SOCIAL BOAT Stan Tahapehi Car Park Duty Wayne Tukiri Hi Everyone,
I don’t know how you feel but I am pretty shattered! 5:00am start for most of us as our day unfolded – boats arrived, trailers unloaded tent’s went up, tables went in and before you knew it our village was ready. Then the cars came and came and came 530 paddlers who knew! Then to the gratitude of many our porta loos arrived and as people came out from behind trees, bushes and cars ………. the first thing on our new list is porta loos book for 5:00am check! For me the big relief was when the first race started – because no matter what goes on behind the scenes those 530 paddlers were here to race and race they did – fast and furious. Race times were loaded on to our web site and on to face book “real time” so very few people were hanging around the administration tent. Every club member gave what was required to ensure the successful day we had – all with a smile. No drama queens, (except possibly me) with family, friends and children lending a helping hand. Please Broady paddlers thank your family, friends and children on behalf of the club their help was greatly appreciated. Can I ask the team leaders or any of the club members to identify anything that needs to be improved on for next year; simple things like paper weights to more golf carts for use, please note not all requests can be granted. Will anything go wrong now if I say that everything went so smoothly even our racing was 20 minutes ahead? Each team, tent and foot patroller worked together to meet the expectations of the sports paddlers. Thank you - thank you - thank you I can’t say it enough! You know after a race we put our hands in to thank each other for the hard work done……….. Well everyone: BROADWATER IN 3 2 1 ............. With heartfelt thanks Roze KIDS IN NEED REGETTA 18TH NOVEMBER 2012 Hi everyone! Thank you for another great team effort from the Paddlers of Broadwater Dragons. For those who could not make it, the day started out very early with us being there at 6:00 (yes that’s right). The weather wasn’t sure what it was going to do so the tents went up the flaps went down and we pegged up tight……..after the first big wind. There was huge support for this 30th Anniversary event from sports and community groups, approx 40 tents were counted and we were the fortunate ones to have the coffee tent next to us. Teams wore T Shirts advertising their corporate businesses, sports uniforms or fancy dress, yes there was another pirate team but I can honestly say even with the eye patch on we were better looking! The women raced first where our fitness guru (Peter Elekana) warmed us up and handed us over to our trainee coach Chris (who PT would be very happy with) when in pirate-speak threatened us with 3 minute planks (instead of walking the plank) if we didn’t give it our best shot, luckily we won the heat. (Fortunately for us Stan only had to cut off one boat for us to win the heat!) Our men with not as an entertaining prelude to their race followed our footsteps and won their heat. Then the skies opened up and racing was delayed………..cutting to the chase I am happy to say that the women WON their final, although we did have a heart stopping moment or two but they were just tricking us. The men did it a little tougher than the women on the day, when they were advised by the race committee that they could not run their final in a men’s boat but had to put in a mixed team for the final where unfortunately they did not place for a trophy. HOWEVER……… with great pride they accepted a trophy for the fastest race time on the day. A huge well done to our first time racers ……….. how great is it to get in a boat and put into practice what we train for. Although this was a social regatta it does give you an idea of what is expected as we start going to sports regattas in preparation for the States and Nationals. Honourable mention has to go to our sweeps Stan and Kelly who did a great job today, and as with all our sweeps kept us safe and in the boat! Thanks guys! Thank you to everyone who always puts in to make these events a smooth fun time for us all! Special thanks also go to Con and Diana who opened their home to the Broadwater family and put on a table laden of fat free, sugar free, delicacies (Yes it’s true PT) which quite a few of us generously partook. Micah our president disappeared for a little while and I think he was trying to figure out how to use this fantastic home for our club house (stay tuned)? Don’t forget to put your name down for the regattas coming up and if you are not sure what to expect talk to the paddlers who were in the boat today ……………… you will know them they are the ones smiling! Regards Roze |
